When I was twelve years old, I discovered that if I looked at a photograph for reference, I could make my drawings look more naturalistic. This grew into a fascination of drawing people.
10 years ago was when I started to really begin trying my hand at portraiture. My first series of portraits were of some BBC period drama characters that I really enjoyed: Jane Eyre, John Thornton from North and South, David Copperfield, and Miss Matty from Cranford.
Starting in March 2009, I drew one of them a month. Seeing as these worked well for my film character series, I thought what better way to celebrate my 10 Years of Portraits than to draw them again! So, in March 2019 I began on a coloured pencil version of Jane Eyre as she was the first one I did. March has also always felt very “Jane Eyre” to me.
