An oil painting of an English Springer Spaniel in a hunting suit

Lady Mary Dog

They say dogs look like their owners. I do not currently own an English Springer Spaniel, but if I did, I can very well imagine people would say this about us.

I had a little wooden oval frame for my main wall of art and it was exciting coming up with the subject matter I was to make for it. It’s a bit of a self-portrait as an English Springer Spaniel, and I chose one of the hunting outfits Lady Mary wears in Downton Abbey. ESS breeds are historically known for being hunting dogs. I wanted to go for a ‘Lady Mary Crawley on a hunt’ vibe, as that is also aesthetically something I love. Intermixed with a number of Downton Abbey scenes, I took inspiration from some vintage photographs and fashion plates which date between the periods in which the Downton seasons take place, including Agatha Christie and even the Duchess of Cambridge as well!
