About the Artist
Estelle Chérie Pogson (née Erdmann) is a German-American portraitist, painter, and illustrator, born in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, England. In 1994 she lived in a little house called Postles Lodge in the neighbouring historical town of Knebworth. Her family moved countries quite regularly, which resulted in broadening her knowledge of culture, literature, history, and art.
Estelle was classically educated by her mother at home, along with her younger brother, Johannes. Despite the challenges and uncertainties the family faced, their childhood was filled with much wonder and excitement, as they constantly imagined stories, read books, and drew pictures together. This shaped and inspired Estelle in her work from an early age and spurred her on to become the illustrator she dreamed of becoming. Some of her favourite inspirational figures include K.Y. Craft, Beatrix Potter, Lewis Carroll, J.M. Barrie, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Harry Gregson-Williams, and C.S. Lewis.
After moving from Switzerland to South Carolina, Estelle graduated with a BA in Studio Art at North Greenville University, and later came back to Germany where she taught Advanced Placement Art and Drawing & Painting for two years at Black Forest Academy.
As a firm believer in Christ, Estelle’s desire has always been to give glory to God through her work and hope that others would see His hand through her God-given talent, bringing back naturalism to the art world as she strives to emulate the intricate detail, colours, and light of the world of our Creator.
Estelle resides with her husband, Ulrich, in an 100 year old apartment in the charming city of Basel, Switzerland.
